코리언니스, 그리고 그 이후

오랜만에 업데이트합니다.
꽤 오랫동안 이곳에 글을 올리지 못했는데, 그동안 많은 일들이 있었습니다.

먼저, The Kosmosis의 두 번째 책인 “코리언니스”가 단행본 형태로 나왔습니다.

있는 것을 더 소중하게, 우리 것을 더 우리답게.

코스모시스의 두 번째 기록은 이 문장을 나침반 삼아 이어진 여정입니다. 우리가 이미 가지고 있지만 쉽게 지나쳐온 것들 속에서 한국다움을 다시 바라보려 했습니다. 사람들의 태도와 감각, 시간 속에 쌓인 흔적들, 그리고 여전히 남아 있는 풍경들까지. 그 안에서 우리는 가장 정직한 우리의 모습을 마주합니다.

코리언니스는 현재 코스모시스 온·오프라인 스토어를 비롯해 교보문고, 알라딘, 예스24 등 전국 주요 서점에서 만나보실 수 있습니다. 코스모시스 볼륨 1도 함께 유통하고 있으며, 이북 버전은 Kindle에도 올려두었습니다. 해외에 계신 분들도 조금 더 편하게 접하실 수 있을 것 같습니다.

그리고 코리언니스를 바탕으로 한 팝업 전시도 진행했습니다. 이번 팝업은 책 런치와 함께, 책의 세계관을 확장한 사진 전시, 그리고 코리언니스 캡슐 컬렉션을 함께 선보이는 자리였습니다. 첫 시작은 BTS 광화문 공연이 있던 날이었음에도 많은 분들이 공간을 찾아주셨습니다. 오프라인에서 나눈 대화들이 특히 기억에 남습니다. 온라인으로 교류하던 분들을 실제로 만나 뵐 수 있어 반갑고 감사했고, 새로운 분들에게 코리언니스와 코스모시스를 소개할 수 있어 더 의미 있는 시간이었습니다.

이번 전시는 Maison Kosmosis의 시작이기도 했습니다. 앞으로 이 공간에서는 Koreanness 전시를 중심으로 계속해서 열어둘 예정입니다. 평일에는 제가 머무는 시간에 방문이 가능하고, 주말에는 한동안 토요일과 일요일에 열 예정입니다. 자세한 일정은 메종 코스모시스 인스타그램에 공지합니다. (@maisonkosmosis)

돌이켜보면, 코스모시스의 흐름은 하나의 음악을 만들어가는 과정과 닮아 있습니다. 처음에는 사진으로 시작했습니다. 외국인 독자들에게 진짜 한국을 소개하는 것이 분명한 방향이었고, 가장 사실적인 풍경들을 담아내려고 했습니다. 그 위에 글을 올리기 시작했습니다. The Kosmosis를 통해 한국의 현재와 과거를 함께 다루었습니다. 국내 독자들의 피드백을 반영해 한글과 영어를 함께 쓰게 되었고, 한국의 일상에 더 가까이 다가가게 되었습니다.

이제는 공간입니다. 전시와 오브제를 통해 보고, 만지고, 경험할 수 있는 형태로 Koreanness가 확장되고 있습니다. 책에서 시작된 이야기들이 공간으로 이어지고, 다시 온라인으로 확장되며 하나의 흐름을 만들어가고 있습니다.

코스모시스는 계속해서 레이어를 쌓아가고 있습니다. 앞으로 어떤 소리가 더해질지는 모르겠지만, 지금보다 조금 더 밀도 있는 방향으로 이어질 것 같습니다.

It has been a while since the last update. I haven’t been able to write here for quite some time, and a lot has happened in between.

First, the second book from The Kosmosis, Koreanness, has been published as a standalone volume.

To value what already exists, and to see it as our own, more truthfully.

The second record of Kosmosis is a journey guided by this line. It began with a desire to look again at what we already have but often pass by without noticing. The attitudes and sensibilities of people, the traces accumulated over time, and the landscapes that still remain. Within these, we encounter a more honest version of ourselves.

Koreanness is now available through the Kosmosis store, both online and offline, as well as major bookstores across Korea including Kyobo, Aladin, and Yes24. The Kosmosis Vol.1 is also being distributed alongside it, and an ebook version is now available on Kindle, making it more accessible for readers outside Korea.

We also presented a pop-up exhibition built around Koreanness. It brought together the book launch, a photography exhibition that extends the world of the book, and a capsule collection inspired by it. Despite opening on the same day as the BTS concert at Gwanghwamun, many people visited the space. The conversations we had offline remain the most memorable. It was meaningful to meet people we had previously only connected with online, and to introduce Koreanness and Kosmosis to new audiences.

This exhibition also marked the beginning of Maison Kosmosis. The space will continue to host the Koreanness exhibition on an ongoing basis. It will be open during the hours I am present on weekdays, and on weekends for the time being. The schedule will be updated through the Maison Kosmosis Instagram. (@maisonkosmosis)

Looking back, the trajectory of Kosmosis resembles the process of composing a piece of music. It began with photographs, with a clear intention to introduce a more honest view of Korea to an international audience, capturing its most unfiltered landscapes. Writing came next. Through The Kosmosis, we began to layer text onto images, exploring both the present and the past of Korea. Reflecting feedback from local readers, we adopted a bilingual format, which gradually brought the focus closer to everyday life in Korea.

Now, it extends into space. Through exhibitions and objects, Koreanness is taking on a form that can be seen, touched, and experienced. What began as a book continues into a physical space, and further expands into the digital, forming a continuous flow.

Kosmosis continues to build layer by layer. What comes next is still unknown, but it will likely move toward something denser, more complete.
